    Reliable printer that "just works"

Posted by Kieran Kelleher on 2022 Jun 13th

WHo has time to fix printer problems? Not me! I had an Epson 4020 for years and it worked well.. until it didn't. I replaced that with an Epson Workforce ET-4750, which eventually degraded on print quality. Took it to the recycling center. I don't want all in one machines - too much stuff to go wrong. I just want a solid, reliable color printer that I never have to fix or troubleshoot. So far it seems this brother color laser fits the bill. It is a solid workhorse that has given me zero issues in the 8 months I have been using it. the printer can sit idle for 2 weeks and then fire into action to reliably print a whole lot of color pages. No mess, no fuss, no printing test pages, no cleaning print heads and generally wasting precious time getting a stupid inkjet to print a piece of paper with quality rendering.

Worth the purchase just to save money on toner.

Posted by NanCcan on 2022 Jun 13th

Bought this because we print a lot and the cost per page is supposedly far lower. It looks as if the Super High yield Black toner will cost us about 1/4 what we used to spend on toner, and the Super High yield color toner cartridges will cost us a little more than 1/2 what we spent on color toner with our old color laser printer. If you don't buy the High yield or Super-High yield cartridges, it uses toner at the same rate as our previous laser printer (We've tested this because it comes with the lowest yield cartridges). We've just replaced the 3 color cartridges that came with it but black is still almost 1/2 full. At first, we felt the print quality wasn't quite as bright and bold as we were used to, but either it got better within a couple of weeks, or we got used to (and happy with) the print quality - text, graphs, and photos! Our old laser printer was working just fine; we bought this one just to save money, and we're glad we did.

    So Far It is Excellent

Posted by Larry S on 2022 Jun 13th

I received this printer a few days ago. I was able to set it up, including wireless internet, in less than 30 minutes. The initial copies have been EXCELLENT but I did notice some curling. When I researched the reason why I found I should use paper with a weight of 24# instead of 20#. I purchased this printer after reading the reviews on many printers. While the printer is reasonably priced for what you get, their replacement cartridges (which I will not need for awhile) is ridiculously priced. My advice, look at generics and choose the one with the best reviews. If you are looking at this model I really discounted the terrible reviews. Is it heavy? Yes but really not that bad. I am 75 years old and had no problem handling it and setting it up. Once connected there is virtually no further settings that need to be made. Take your time. Read the instructions. Remove all the tape and plastic orange protectors. Would I buy this model again...absolutely!

Brother HLL8360CDW Color Laser Printer - Excellent Printer and Excellent Value for the Money

Posted by Kenneth A. Brown II on 2022 Jun 13th

I purchased this printer based on my research and the fact that this printer is an PC Magazine 2017 Editors Choice Award winner. Brother printers have been very reliable at work and having one at home just made sense. I was originally going to get monochrome only, but my Epson Artisan 835 ink cartridges were not lasting very long, so I found this printer was color. I Also purchased a high capacity toner cartridge and now print black and white 90% of the time and color only when I need it. This is a heavy printer and build quality is very high. The output is superb. I printed pictures of a white board from a meeting and the pictures were crisp, clean, and clear and color was accurate. Printing is FAST! Setup was relatively simple, once you setup the wireless LAN connection to your router, installing the software is a breeze on your computer! The touch screen is superb and works very well. I highly recommend this printer. It is a good value for a color printer and I am very happy with the purchase.

AWESOME PRINTER!!! This is an approx. 1 year update since purchase.

Posted by Paul C on 2022 Jun 13th

The short version is that my wife & I are really liking this printer so far. As the headline reads, the color prints look great (including photo prints) and it prints fast (even from startup). So I chuckled reading some of the reviews (which I carefully did for several models). People talk about this printer being hefty (aprox 40lbs). This printer replaced an old HP 4550N Color LaserJet I had. THAT printer was hefty (113lbs!). So, the approx 40lbs was a JOY! :) I was very pleased with the HP but it was just getting old and was well beyond end of life. So I've been an HP fan for many years and felt I was really taking a risk trying out the Brother. My wife is a teacher and prints a lot of "stuff". So far we (especially my wife) have been just very impressed by this printer. I even printed my first double sided print (full duplex) today and it worked great. We've probably printed 30+ color pages and the toner and other perishables don't even show a dent in utilization (still 100% across the board). So thank you Brother for sending decent starter toner cartridges! I appreciated the one reviewer providing the password "initpass" for the built in web server on the printer. The information and configuration options on the printers web page are impressive. The pictures above are of the unboxing process. There are about nine pieces of tape that have to be removed and there are these orange clips that keep the toner cartridges in place during shipping. They are fairly easy to remove. You will need to pull down the main front door and pull out the cartridge drawer to get to them. Last, it has been great getting this printer. It immediately prompted me to download and install updates (twice). My WIN10 PCs immediately see the new printer and it worked flawlessly. We own iPhones and we can print very easily from them straight to the printer. On the iPhones, if the photo is large it takes a little longer to print which I assume is because it's going over WiFi to get to the printer. Speaking of which, I have this printer plugged into my network and am NOT using the built-in WiFi. APPROX. 1 YR UPDATE -------------------- So we purchased this in August of '19... now July '20. So far this printer has been VERY impressive. We've gone through the starter toner... got approx. 2k prints from those alone!!! I purchased the high yield toner cartridges... that's pricey but not when you compare number of prints to traditional toner. We've been so pleased I recommended this to my mother (and she purchased it). I'll occasionally log into the printer and upgrade the firmware (if a new one is available) and check the stats. So far we have 2,650 color & 151 b&w prints. Excluding toner, all the perishables (drum unit, fuser unit, laser unit, etc are above 90% with most being just under 100%. OVER 2 YR UPDATE -------------------- Printer is still going strong! My wife is a teacher and prints tons of stuff... I have three teens cranking out reports, you name it. I'm on my second FULL toner cartridge set (four). That is to say, I've gone through the starter, a regular full set and on another. So far I have 6,690 color pages & 548 B&W pages. As I mentioned... I have my second FULL / extended toner set in and they are almost 100% each. Sad to hear anyone has issues with this model... I can just tell you my experience. I DID however have one issue where I purchased a full (black, yellow, cyan, magenta) Brother toner replacement. ONE of the toner cartridges didn't work... it was brand new out of the package and the printer showed empty. I tend to purchase this stuff some months before they run out so I don't get caught empty. The bad thing about that is that it was past the seller's return date. I was disappointed with the seller for that. Unfortunately Brother wouldn't help me out either BUT... to Amazon's credit they gave me some credit for the single toner. I ended up purchasing a stand alone toner cartridge to replace the "defective" one and it worked great.

FIRST TIME PURCHASING A COLOR LASER PRINTER AND IT IS GREAT

Posted by Stellar on 2022 Jun 13th

The Super High-Yield Black cartridge costs $82.48. A full set would set you back $602.92. Third party cartridges are hundreds of dollars cheaper, but the build quality of the cartridges is worse and the quality of the toner is not very good. You risk damaging the printer or the toner can leak into the printer when using third party cartridges. You won't run out of toner for a couple years. The toner will outlive the printer most likely. Laser Printers use toner and Inkjet Printers use ink. Toner lasts much longer than ink. Make sure you maintain the printer and avoid paper jams as much as possible. You can order the printer with one paper tray or two paper trays. You can buy additional trays later, but they cost more individually. The paper trays are not for thick paper, glossy paper and envelopes, but the multipurpose tray is for thick paper, glossy paper and envelopes. It has an easy to use interface on the touch screen with access to a couple of applications. You can print from Google Drive and what not. This printer can't scan, copy or fax documents, it only prints. It has Ethernet and Wireless connectivity. I chose to connect it via Ethernet to the router because a direct connection will always be more reliable than a wireless connection. I don't know if the wireless connection is good, but I assume that it doesn't disconnect as much as the HP Photosmart 7520 I have. It doesn't support Gigabit speeds over a wireless network as it isn't 802.11ac ready and it can't connect to the 5 GHz band if your network broadcasts on the band. I am not able to install the utility on macOS 10.13.2, but I'm able to install the utility on Windows 10. Drivers for the printer are great, but they don't offer any additional features that can be used for print jobs. I almost forgot to tell you that you can print from your iPhone or any modern mobile device. If your mobile device supports the NFC technology, then you can print without being on the same network as the printer, but you have to be near the printer. I have had no issues thus far. It's a business printer and I'm using it for home and personal usage, so it should perform very well. This is my first color laser printer and thus far I'm happy.

    Junk your inkjets...Get this!

Posted by Colin MacKenzie on 2022 Jun 13th

After 6 months I still love this printer! My previous Brother printers were always reliable and so is this one. When I need it to print a certain way it just does it. Manual feed, easy. Envelopes, easy (with envelope levers down). Thick stock. Lots of paper capacity. Color reproduction is excellent! I was expecting only color documents but poor photo quality but NO...to my surprise this prints better than my 4-color photo optimized inkjet and I just got frustrated and tired of all the inkjet maintenance issues. Occasionally there are some minor color reproduction errors on some photos but I wont dock any marks because (1) I have a "printer's eye" - so I'm naturally picky...my parents owned a print shop, (2) color lasers are not intended as photo printers (3) It is very minor and much less than I anticipated as a color laser.
